In Witness to Changes

At age seven while watching weekly movies in boarding school, the screen flickered in jagged edges images and changes in our lives, our views and expressions. The changes escaped the screen and shocked and pierced our hearts. We sat in witness as institutions parceled off our spirits and bodies to “save” us. We cried. We cursed. We prayed. In the end, we accepted these changes to a degree. Some embraced then wholly, while others comprised slightly and some crushed the tenderness.
