Big reservation life captured in smaller paintings July 2nd thru the 29th 2008
Shonto’s Small Picture Show exhibit features post-card sized “glimpses of those things that stay with you,” he says. “These paintings express movement and the constant storm of memories.” Images of midnight motorcycle rides, moonlit nights, welcoming hogans, hip Indians and shadowy ancestors make themselves at home in Shonto’s bold brushstrokes. The paintings convey his love of nature and tell both traditional and contemporary Diné stories.
The Small Picture Show will be on display from July 2-29. Meet Shonto during an artist reception from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, July 4, at the West of the Moon Gallery, 111 E. Aspen Ave in historic downtown Flagstaff. For info go to: http://www.westofthemoongallery.com/
